Los† Ninjas (2013 – 2019)

LEA KIEFFER A.K.A SUE-CIDE & ROCIO MARANO A.K.A CAT NINJA

We are all fictions, we are made of other fictions, we need to acknowledge these fictions in order to make new ones.

Los† Ninjas Practice was born in 2013 when Lea Kieffer (aka Sue-Cide) and Rocio Marano (aka Cat Ninja) physically crashed into each other pulled by their obsessions of bodies colliding, flying and landing, quirky moves and fantastic storytelling. Since 2016, Los† Ninjas are sharing their practice through workshops and Performances: P-Bodies Dance and Performance Festival Leipzig, SMASH Berlin, Katalyst Festival Cologne, Bienal de Performance Buenos Aires, Intensive Workshops in Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata, Amsterdam, Freiburg, Brussels, Copenhagen, Leipzig, Martin-Gropius-Bau Berlin, LaMama New York, Handy Jam Detroit, Love-in Toronto, FTA Montreal, Dock11 Berlin, Waking Life Music Festival, Portugal. They have created several pieces and performed together: Pink Blue Martini (2013), Ibiza Labour Camp (2014), Ibiza Revenge (2015), The Genesis of Los† Ninjas / Drawing the Mandala (2015), Matter of Blood (2016), Insanity Solo (2017), Los† Ninjas on the Road –On Travelling, espionage and finding alternative paths (2018), Blind Date Literally (2018-9).

Los† Ninjas Practice is a rule-free, sense-filled, non-sensed, awkward practice that goes from hands-on work with the material of the body and reminds us our own survival skills. Los† Ninjas create a form of myth-making that discharge the equations by animating the varieties of play, kinds of wildness and forms of daring. Our proposal, this time, focuses on body sensory skills and experiences that dispense from the sight sense, blindfolded we are guided by what cannot be seen: guts feelings, dreams, visions, solid objects, emotions, sights, sounds, smells, or any kind of sensation.

MATTER OF BLOOD (2016)

CHOREOGRAPHY, PERFORMANCE: Rocio Marano Miguez, Lea Kieffer PERFORMANCE, STAGE: Gaëtan Rusquet COSTUMES: Lea Kieffer MENTOR: Maja Zimmermann.

A drive towards epicness. A collision of souls. Los† Ninjas search for the ultimate state of presence and freedom. With their bodies as weapons they overcome chapters of an unfolding and fragmented story line inspired by their obsession with manga anime and their practice of crashing and seriously playing.

WORKSHOP

It is when the inner ninja is awaken that the space is ready to be shaped by the continuous encounter of mystical beasts. Games are made from rules, but rules are made from gaming, too. What is confusing and burning is also exhilarating, a matter of trust, of being in the world, a longing for cinematic moments, a longing for a new beginning every time, to start from scratch and from scratching. Grabbing, locking, rubbing, twisting, bending, jumping, using your feet as hands and you hands as forks or use another body as a mattress so you can land softly. To name some of our practices: Awakening the Inner-Ninja, Dragon Ball, Kiss the Floor, Fake killing, No-ending dying lapdance, Eaten by the Space, Kinectic-Ninja, Epic Writing, The Cage, Eye Gazing, Stretching time.

Los† Ninjas are characterized by illustrating two histrionic ninja-characters with a symbiotic relationship, an intensive physicality and a DIY spirit. The practice goes from hands-on work with the material of the body and remind us our own survival skills. Through sustained “sci-fi” exercises, they form they own myths and ways of moving in the world.
